Salt Lake City got lots of benefits from the Olympics - improved light rail, looser liquor laws, and an influx of new, non-Mormon residents.

Hello,
Nice blog, I just came across it and I'm already a dedicated reader
I recently went down 30 pounds in 30 days, and I want to discuss my weight loss success
with your readers. I described my experience
on my blog, and I would love your feedback!

If I can lose that much weight then anyone can. Whatever you do, never give up and you WILL
achieve all your weight loss goals!
with kind regards,
Joan

Interesting post since my husband and I were just talking about this issue last night. He is a Richard Dawkins-quoting atheist who believes that if religion was out of the picture - neutralized in some way - peace would be achievable. I'm not so sure I agree. Religion is the wedge that evil people use to divide and conquer; the real issues are economic and social segregation. Israel has a de facto policy of apartheid towards the Palestinians as did the British in the Northern Ireland conflict. Until the underlying issues of discrimination, poverty, and disenfranchisement are dealt with there will conflict. The United States and other countires of the world have a moral imperative to speak out and line up against this separation policy by Israel, much as the world lined up against Botha in South Africa. Keep up th great work!

I tend to be a "glass half-full" person, but even I agree with many of your predictions. Especially the Madoff one - I think there are HUGE schemes waiting to be uncovered out there - and I think that a lot of them will involve corporate entities. Let's toast to surviving 2009 - and Happy Birthday!

I agree with you about taxation. But not income or business taxes. We need a reduction in payroll taxes - social security and medicare - that are extremely regressive on the middle and working classes. I would like to see earnings caps eliminated on those taxes and full deductability for the working poor. Think it would ever happen! Keep up the good work!

Interesting post. While I agree that we will need bold ideas to get us out of this stinking morass we find ourselves in, incorporating lessons learned from the past will help launch those bold ideas. We have to MAKE things in this country again; manufacturing is the key to any strong economy. And while we do need to look at new ways to educate our youth - especially our youth at risk - we must also realize that the fundamentals of an educated populace never change; literacy, mathematics literacy, and scientific curiosity are key. Keep up the great work!
